The Honorable President of India announced the launch of the PradhanMantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana in his address in the 16th Lok Sabha session. He said that every drop of water is precious and our government considers the issue of water security of the country as the most important, for this the government has started the Pradhan Mantri Krishi Sinchai Yojana. The main goal of this scheme is to “provide water to every farm” in the country.

Prime Minister Krishi Sinchai Yojana details:

To prevent recurrence of sudden floods and droughts every year in the country, it has become necessary to ensure efficient use of the available water resources in the country. Water problems in the country can be prevented by proper planning of water harvesting and irrigation. For this, the Government of India has started the Krishi Sinchai Yojana. Through this scheme, the government will make efforts to make “Every Drop More Crop”.

Out of 141 million hectares of area in the country, 65 million areas i.e. 45% of the area are under irrigation. Excessive rainfall in the country and farming dependent only on rain poses a risk and leads to less production. The government will provide guidance and financial assistance to all the farmers for micro irrigation in such areas. This will increase the production capacity of farmers and increase their income.

1 The main objective of the Government of India is to ensure that water reaches every farm in the country.

2. The country has started this scheme to save water in farming sector and increase water conservation.

Prime Minister Krishi Sinchai Yojana Benefits:

1. Financial Assistance: Through this scheme, the government will provide financial assistance to the farmers to purchase drip or sprinkler irrigation system.

2. Water Harvesting: This scheme will provide guidance and training to farmers for water harvesting and will help in creating water saving structures like farm ponds.

3. Water lifting equipment: The government will provide new facilities to the farmers to make efficient water management.

4. Precision Irrigation: Will provide training and guidance to farmers to use new technologies for precision irrigation and water saving.

5. Increase in cultivable area: Through this scheme, we will save water by using new irrigation methods and will also make the marginal land cultivable by using more water.

6. Improvement in water use efficiency: Under this scheme, the government will provide training to the farmers through skill development in water harvesting, water conservation, water utilization and water saving.

Function of Prime Minister Krishi Sinchai Yojana (PMKSY):

1. Water Resources: Augmentation, distribution of water resources, groundwater development, lift irrigation, diversion of water from water abundant areas to water deficient areas through IWMP, supplementing rain water harvesting through MNREGA.

2 More crop per drop: Establishing, expanding, coordinating and managing micro irrigation systems in fields.

3. Watershed: Ridge area treatment, drainage line treatment, soil and moisture conservation, water harvesting, structure, life support activities and water shed work.

Prime Minister Krishi Sinchai Yojana Funding:

1. For this pm agricultural irrigation scheme, the central government will provide 60% financial assistance and the state government will provide 40% financial assistance.

2. The Central Government will provide 90% financial assistance and the State Government will provide 10% financial assistance for the Himalayan and Eastern states of the country.

3. But will provide complete 100% financial assistance to the Union Territories of the country.
